Suffering From Sciatica in State College PA?

our chiropractic clinic helps sciatica pain

One of the most painful problems I see with my Chiropractic patients is Sciatica in State College PA. Usually, when a new patient arrives with the symptoms of sciatica, I can tell before they even get through the front door. Seeing their painful wincing, their hands resting gingerly on their lower back and a telltale limp are all instant giveaways that they’re suffering from this unfortunate radiating pain.

How Chiropractic Care in State College PA Relieves Sciatica Pain

I’ve seen many Sciatica cases and in almost all of them Chiropractic Care along with a few lifestyle changes have reduced their pain significantly. Chiropractic Adjustments help to return the lower back vertebrae to their normal position, taking pressure off of the nerve finally allowing relief from Sciatica Pain.

Unfortunately, the intense pain associated with sciatica forces many people to seek out strong medication, but there’s no medication that can fix a herniated disc or a major misalignment of the lumbar spine. Chiropractic Care, while it’s not an instant fix and requires some time, can naturally help these problems to heal with long term results. If you’re suffering from Sciatica I urge you to contact us before the problem becomes so severe that the only option left is medication and/or surgery.

What is Sciatica?

Sciatica is when the sciatic nerve, one of the largest nerves that stem from the low back region, is inflamed. This inflammation can cause intense pain in the lower back that radiates through the hips, down into the buttocks and in many cases down the leg also. Sciatica is usually on one side only, thank goodness, but very occasionally I see some poor soul suffering from sciatica on both sides. The pain from sciatica can be anything from a dull ache to the kind of sever, intense pain that can make a grown man cry.

Causes of Sciatica

There are several conditions that cause sciatica, all of which do one thing; put severe pressure on the sciatic nerve. This pressure is usually due to a lower back disc that has been compromised in some way, including being compressed and/or herniated. Major misalignments (aka subluxations) of the lumbar vertebrae are usually part of the problem as well, misalignments that can be the primary cause of the entire problem.

All of the conditions below have one thing in common; they put pressure on a nerve, usually the sciatic nerve but others as well. This leads to inflammation of that nerve and then severe muscle spasm and pain.

  • Spondylolisthesis – A major subluxation (aka misalignment) of 2 or more lumbar vertebrae.
  • Spinal Stenosis – When the space inside the vertebrae shrinks and compresses the nerves.
  • Piriformis syndrome – When a small muscle in the hip and lower back (the piriformis muscle) puts pressure on the sciatic nerve.
  • Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction – When the hips are subluxated (misaligned)
  • Peripheral Neuropathy – When any of the nerves in the lower back area have been damaged or compromised.
